Record Number of Applications for 30th Staging of Bupa Great North Run

10 Feb 2010
A record number of applications have been received for this year’s Bupa Great North Run, with over 100,000 people applying to take part in what will be the 30th staging of the world famous half marathon on Tyneside.
A ballot will be drawn this week to advise prospective runners whether their application has been successful. Organisers Nova International have confirmed that this year’s entry limit will be 54,000.

David Hart, Communications Director, said “Demand for places has exceeded the number of places that have been available for many years but this is the first time that the number has gone into six figures”

“With the Bupa Great North Run being live on BBC television for 4 hours and the associated weekend activities, the profile of the event has increased rapidly. Our team will be making every effort to ensure that the 54,000 people who have been successful with their application will be a part of the best ever Bupa Great North Run.”

An independently produced study concluded that the Bupa Great North Run had an economic impact of over £20 million to the North East region, with participants from every post code in the country represented in the half marathon event.

The 30th Bupa Great North Run will take place on Sunday 19th September, with the Junior and Mini events on the NewcastleGateshead quayside on the preceding day.
